Pistols The pistol was very inaccurate and only useful at close range. This weapon was carried by Infantry officers, Tank crews and Piolets. Each pistol were semi-automatic. United States .45 Caliber M1911 (considered the best pistol to carry) Germany .38 Caliber Walther (Considered reliable) British .38 Caliber Webley and Enfield 2 Soviets Nagent Revolver 1895 and Tokarev Pistol Italy Berretta .33 Caliber (not accurate but small and compact) Japan Nambu Type 94 (unsafe many officers committed suicide with it) Rifles At the beginning of World War II many of the armies entered the war with World War I rifles. Americans used 1903 Springfield bolt action rifles. United States By 1945, the standard rifle was the 9 lb. Garand M1 with a maximum range of 5500 feet. The rifle was a semi-automatic and self-loading. The weapon was gas operated and fed with an 8 clip .30 caliber cartridge. Its sights were very accurate and the gun was unaffected by the weather. The rifle never jammed. Britain Lee Enfield NO. 4 and 5 Italy Mannlicher Modello 91 Japan Arisaka, Meiji, Mosin The arisaka was a copy of the German Mauser rifle 38” long and used as a sniper weapon. Germany Karabiner 98K, one of the upgrades, fired a Mauser Cartridge 7.92x57mm. Many German rifles utilized early Czechoslovakian designs. Submachine Guns United States This gun had low velocity and failure to penetrate light armor this was a significant problem it was found ineffective in jungle battles. The M1 model had a 50 round box magazine. Britain The Thompson gun they would also manufacture their version of the sub machine gun the Sten gun. Japan Japan used there Submachine guns when they would capture oil fields Germany The machine pistol 43 Strumgewehr had shorter range than most and a less powerful bullet its compact form made it more controllable.
